Clothing & Accessories for the Hebrew Yisraelite Woman

What did the Ancient Hebrew Yisraelite Woman wear?

There is no other book that goes more into detail than Isaiah 3:16-24 concerning the apparel of the ancient Hebrew Yisraelite Woman.  This chapter speaks about YHWH punishing the daugthers of Zion for their haughtiness by taking away their garments & accessories.  Reading this chapter is also a reminder that the clothing & accessories listed were thought of as “precious” & “valuable”. This is why it was taken away as punishment.  YHWH has allowed woman to receive their garments back. It is not a surprise to me that woman who are still in their haughty state, will not even want to wear the garments listed.  Those who seek to get back to their culture which was once taken away, can use this chapter as a guideline.  Only becareful not to be haughty.

Isaiah 3:16

Moreover YHWH saith, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet: 17 Therefore YHWH will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and YHWH will discover their secret parts. 18 In that day YHWH will take away the bravery of their tinkling ornaments about their feet, and their cauls, and their round tires like the moon, 19 The chains, and the bracelets, and the mufflers, 20 The bonnets, and the ornaments of the legs, and the headbands, and the tablets, and the earrings, 21 The rings, and nose jewels, 22 The changeable suits of apparel, and the mantles, and the wimples, and the crisping pins, 23 The glasses, and the fine linen, and the hoods, and the vails. 24 And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; and instead of a girdle a rent; and instead of well set hair baldness; and instead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth; and burning instead of beauty.

According to the law, everyone had to wear fringes & blue borders on the hem of their garments, even woman.  So a Hebrew Ysraelite who kept the covenant wouldn’t be seen without wearing them.

[37] And YHWH spake unto Moses, saying,[38] Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribband of blue:[39] And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of YHWH, and do them; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a whoring:[40] That ye may remember, and do all my commandments, and be holy unto your Elohim.

A reminder that the act of wearing them is not for others to see, but for the person wearing them to be reminded about keeping the commandments.  Some will wear fringes but it may be tucked into a skirt or pants or an outer garment could be covering them. Before Accidental delete (353) page views
